Prospect Watch: El Paso opened a road trip in the Pacific Northwest with a win over Tacoma, scoring three in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to pull away from the Mariners’ top farm team. … Recent signee Donovan Solano had a pair of hits, including a two-run single in the third inning. The 36-year-old signed as a free agent on April 17. Thus far with El Paso, he is 3-for-9 in three games. Last season, the veteran played in a career-high 134 games with the Twins, hitting .282/.369/.391 with 26 doubles and five homers. His offensive production was 11 percent above the league average. … Tirso Ornelas extended his hitting streak to four games with a pair of singles. He also added his first stolen base of 2024. Ornelas began the year with just three hits in his first 34 at-bats. Since then, he’s gone 7-for-16, raising his batting average from .088 to .200. … Cal Mitchell reached base four times with three singles, a walk, and an RBI. Mitchell, 25, attended Rancho Bernardo High and was drafted in the second round by the Pirates in 2017. He made his big league debut in 2022, getting into 69 games with Pittsburgh and two more in 2023. He signed with his hometown team this off-season. In 20 games for the Chihuahuas, Mitchell is hitting .276/.356/.408. … Jeremiah Estrada ran through the Rainiers’ offense with ease, striking out the side on 13 pitches for his third save. Tacoma batters swung at eight pitches and whiffed six times. His traditional slider was up to 90 mph on Tuesday, playing off a fastball that sat 96-97. The dominance of the Indio, California native seems to grow each time he takes the mound. In 8.2 innings, he’s struck out a ridiculous 20 batters while walking just three. He’s converted all three save opportunities he’s had while posting a 2.08 ERA.

Prospect Watch:The Missions got their only run of the game in the first on an RBI double from Cole Cummings. The pitching staff took it from there as five Missions pitchers collaborated on a five-hit shutout. … Center fielder Jakob Marsee had a two-hit game as he looks to break out of an early-season slump. The lefthanded hitting Marsee came into Tuesday’s action with a K-rate north of 27% – about six points higher than it was last year in Double-A. Tuesday’s performance raised his batting average to .161. … Righty Jared Kollar made the start and pitched well but was pulled after four innings, preventing him from earning the win. Still, Kollar was effective despite throwing 77 pitches, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four. The 25-year-old has been a reliable pitcher for the organization after signing in 2022 as an undrafted free agent from Rutgers. After a strong debut with the TinCaps last year, he pitched to a 4.62 ERA in 12 starts for the Missions. This year, he has a 3.00 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 15 innings after punching out just 34 batters in 50.2 Double-A innings last year. … Ethan Routzahn earned his second win since joining the Missions last week. The 26-year-old out of St. John’s pitched two innings and allowed just one hit, striking out one. Routzahn began the year with the TinCaps where he pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, earning the promotion for the Missions. Since moving up to San Antonio, he’s allowed just one in 3.1 innings. Last season, he threw 65.1 innings for Fort Wayne across 32 outings, working exclusively as a reliever. … Woo-Suk Go pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out one. Go has struggled with the Missions despite impressive strikeout numbers. The KBO veteran has punched out 11 batters in nine innings but has also allowed six earned runs on 12 hits. The righthander will need to string together a few more clean outings to get consideration for a spot with the big league club. … Jayvien Sandridge pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season. The 25-year-old allowed a hit but struck out three to preserve the victory. Sandridge signed with the Padres in the offseason after spending 2023 in the Reds’ organization. He’s allowed one earned run with 12 strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

TinCaps rained out

It’s been a rough start of the year for the TinCaps weather-wise this season. Tuesday’s game was postponed due to rain in the Fort Wayne area. They will play a doubleheader Wednesday against the Loons at Parkview Field.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7, Storm 2

Prospect Watch:The Storm hit the road for a 12-game road trip, losing their opener at LoanMart Field to the Quakes. … The top story was the professional debut of 17-year-old Leodalis De Vries, who signed with the Padres for $4.2 million in January as an international free agent. He was officially promoted to Lake Elsinore on Tuesday and went 0-for-4 in his pro debut with a pair of ground outs and two fly balls to right field. The switch-hitting infielder will try again for his first professional hit on Wednesday. … Dillon Head is heating up for Lake Elsinore. Last year’s first-rounder had another multi-hit game, tallying a single and a triple. He also drove in a pair of runs. Head has three consecutive multi-hit games, going 6-for-13 in that stretch. He’s had at least two hits in five of his last six starts, raising his batting average from .184 to .270. … The Storm bullpen struggled on Tuesday, allowing seven runs in six innings but starter Fernando Sanchez looked sharp. The 23-year-old lefty from Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico pitched three shutout innings, allowing just one hit. He walked one and struck out a pair of Quakes. Sanchez has seen action in Lake Elsinore in each of the last four seasons. In six innings this year, he’s allowed just one earned run.

Roster Moves: De Vries wasn’t the only big-name addition to the Storm roster. Catcher J.D. Gonzalez was also bumped up the Cal League. He was not in the lineup Tuesday night but could make his professional debut on Wednesday when the Storm and Quakes play at 11 am. Gonzalez, 18, was drafted by the Padres in the third round last year out of high school in Puerto Rico. His sweet lefthanded swing and strong defensive skillset have gotten plenty of buzz on the back fields of Peoria this spring. … In addition, the Storm received righty Adan Moreno from the ACL. Moreno, 19, saw action in the DSL last year, as well as three appearances in the ACL. Between the two stops, Moreno had a 1-2 record with a 4.19 ERA in 13 games (10 starts). … Hard-throwing righty Bradgley Rodriguez, who struck out nine in 5.1 innings was promoted to Fort Wayne. The 20-year-old, who missed all of the last two seasons, has been one of the early season stars in the system. … Catcher Colton Vincent, who signed as an undrafted free agent last summer, was sent back to the ACL.
